7 Excuses For Not Writing Your eBook And How To Overcome Them
By Ellen Violette
1. You’re not sure that you can simplify your subject enough. Some subjects can get pretty technical and if that’s the case maybe it isn’t a good subject to write on unless you have defined a niche that is very focused and deep. On the other hand, if it is a subject that people are interested in, then it is your job to make it understandable. The best way to make sure you keep it simple is to read it out loud. If you wouldn’t talk that way to someone then rewrite it!
2. You’re not sure that you like what you are writing. It doesn’t matter if you like it or not- what matters is that you are giving information that your target market wants and needs. So write it, put it out, and let them tell you what they think. In my experience it’s usually much better than you think it is. Remember you’re the expert!
3. You’re not sure that your ebook is good enough to finish. We tend to be our worst critic. And there is nothing worse than judging your ebook before you are even finished! Resist the temptation to judge while you are still writing, then put it out and get feedback. Remember not everything you think is the truth!
4. You’re distracted by life, roommates, family, work etc. This is classic procrastination. You have to make an appointment with yourself and find a quiet place to write, then JUST DO IT!
5. You’re not sure you have enough to say. If you don’t have enough to say then you are writing on the wrong subject. All of us are experts at something and if you are an expert then you have enough to say!
6. You’re afraid you have too much to say. If you create an outline, then you can see just how much you have to say. And if it’s too much, then it may be that what you thought was one ebook is actually two or three ebooks or more! That’s okay. Extract the information that you want to put into THIS ebook and put the rest aside for later. Then write your ebook.
7. You’re afraid no one will buy your ebook. It sounds like fear of rejection. But here's the good news: if you do the research first then you will KNOW whether people want to buy it before you write a single word! And if the research shows people aren't that interested, then write something else!
However, if you’ve done the research and you are still afraid, remember this is just your mind trying to sabotage you and you just have to ignore it! You'll never know for sure until you write it and properly market it. So go for it!
