6 Overlooked Elements That Every eBook Should Have
By Ellen Violette
1.A copyright notice. It’s not enough to put the copyright sign on your ebook. You must put the copyright sign and then say Copyright and the year (ex: Copyright 2009) because the sign alone is not recognized in many countries.
2. A legal disclaimer. You want to protect yourself from being sued so you need to let people know that whatever you are selling is for educational purposes only and that you are not practicing medicine if it’s in the health field, or that you are not promising people will make money if it’s about making money. This is one area where you don’t want to model what someone else has because the laws in their state may be different from yours. What you need to say may be specific to your niche so be sure to consult with an attorney.
3. A price notice. Be sure to let people know if your ebook is free or not. If it is free, you’ll want to encourage the reader to share it with others. If it‘s not free, you want to discourage people from sharing it with others or selling it. Most people will respect your wishes, but they can’t if they don’t know! What can happen is that people forget. They may download your ebook today but not remember in 6 months whether it was free or not so you have to tell them.
4. A Table of Contents. This may seem obvious but sometimes people just start writing and forget to include a table of contents. This can make it very difficult for the reader to the find the exact material they are looking for when they need it, so be sure to include one!
5. An ebook-cover graphic. Even though it’s an ebook, you want to include a three-dimensional representation of your ebook because people respond to pictures. When you include an ebook-cover graphic you will make more ebook sales than without it.
6. About the Author. People want to know that they are buying their ebooks from an expert in the field of their topic. And including a section about you will help them feel good about purchasing your ebooks. It will also give them a sense of who you are and people buy from people they know, like and trust.
